The third worldwide Firebird Conference will take place at the Hotel Olsanka in Prague, Czech Republic. The opening session will be on Sunday evening, 13th November 2005. Sessions will run through to the evening of Tuesday 15th November 2005 (closing session).

Registration for the conference

You can (and need to) register in advance if you plan to be a conference participant. You can make a substantial saving by registering by the last day of September (see below).

Details for registering can be found at the IBPhoenix web site. There, you can indicate whether you want a reservation made for you at the conference hotel (Hotel Olsanka), your room preferences and special food requirements and you can arrange payment for the conference. Paying the hotel bill will be your concern - we are not taking any prepayments for accommodation and meals.

C o s t s
  • Early Bird: €399.00 (Euros), $479.00 (USD), £279.00 (UKP) until 30th Sept 2005
  • Normal: €500.00 (Euros), $600.00 (USD), £335.00 (UKP) after 30th Sept 2005.

Registration includes attendance at the conference, lunches and morning and afternoon refreshments on Monday and Tuesday. It does not include the cost of your hotel room, but we will make a reservation for you at the Hotel Olsanka for the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night, if you request it, on a first-come-first-served basis, at a preferential rate of about 40.00 Euros per night (double room, single occupant) or 43 Euros per night (single room).

Speakers and Topics

The call for speakers and their proposals for topics closed on August 31. They are currently being reviewed for selection and for slotting into the programme. One thing you can count on is that it will be a "full-on" two days. We have enough for two conferences!

A session will last for 50 minutes plus 10 minutes for turnaround and questions. Some talks may span multiple sessions. We also hope to make slots available to repeat the especially popular sessions that people would otherwise miss by being involved with other sessions.

Full details of the current proposals are HERE.

Compensation

Speakers who are resident in Europe will be reimbursed 800.00 Euros. Those from other countries will be reimbursed $1400.00 USD. Hotel accommodation will be provided for the three conference nights, from the Sunday night until checkout on the Wednesday morning.

Publication of Papers

Each selected speaker will be expected to turn in a technical paper in electronic (HTML - Hypertext markup language) form for each abstract topic originally approved. All illustrations and graphics pertaining to each paper must also be submitted. The papers should contain enough detail to enable a reader to fully understand the topic without benefit of a physical presentation. Speakers may also submit samples of code and/or presentation slides.

All accepted papers will be published electronically on a conference CD for the attendees after the conference. We may choose to sell the conference proceedings CD outside of the conference, or publish items separately. By submitting materials to the Firebird conference, you grant the Firebird Foundation permission to use, reproduce, audio/video record and distribute your materials.

Sponsoring the Firebird Worldwide Conference

A recent Evans Data survey showed usage of Firebird to represent 39% of all open source database deployments. It is estimated that there are over 3 million Firebird deployments worldwide. The conference audience will consist mainly of developers and database administrators. We have a handful of sponsors for this conference but we are definitely looking for more organisations to help with the funding.
  • Gold Sponsorship $3,000.00
Physical presence at the conference (stand), right to speak, a large logo presence, free hotel accomodation for one representative plus benefits accorded to both Silver and Bronze.

  • Silver Sponsorship $2,000.00
Rights to include distributing reasonable amount of printed material, CDs, etc. inside the event folder; medium sized logo presence; plus benefits accorded to Bronze.

  • Bronze Sponsorship $1,000.00
Logo printed on posters, and on the conference sites

If you or your company are interested in being a part of what it takes to make this conference happen, please contact the Secretary, helebor -AT- firebird-books.net.

The Auction - a Conference Tradition!
Another way to sponsor is to donate software, CDs, and/or licenses of your products, that will be auctioned at the end of the conference to raise funds for the Firebird Foundation.

Still in the pipeline.

Hotel Olsanka

The opening session on Sunday evening will take place in a large lecture hall. Four smaller rooms are available all day for Monday and Tuesday and a lecture hall is available for afternoon sessions that are likely to have larger audiences. The closing session will be in the lecture hall on Tuesday evening.
