Firebird 2.00 Release Candidate 5
circa 4 October 2006
The Firebird Project has begun releasing source and binary kits of Firebird Firebird 2.0 Release Candidate 5. Please do not flood the support lists if a kit you want is delayed. We have no control over how long it takes the mirrors to catch up.
This will probably become the release version. This time around, we particularly ask that you look out for gaps in the release notes and, if you wish to, provide code examples and other details that you think would assist others. You may post such items to the firebird-devel list in plain-text emails with the tag [FB2DOC].
- This version of Firebird 2 (build 2.0.0.12745) is close to being production-ready. Bugs fixed since RC4 are listed at the end of the Bug Fixes section in the bundled release notes.
- Please read the "General Notes" and "Security" sections carefully before you install this beta.
- Bugs, problems, etc. can be posted to the Firebird Tracker.
Firebird 2 contains a large number of new features, including derived tables, support for Execute Block, increased table sizes, new improved index code (the 252-byte index length limit is no longer applicable), expression indices, numerous optimiser improvements, enhanced security features, support for on-line incremental backups, new international language support, along with numerous other improvements and bug fixes.
Note Firebird 2 includes ODS changes. So, backup anything you want to keep before uninstalling a previous Firebird version or a previous alpha or beta version.
