AUSTIN, TEXAS - November 30, 2005 ? Pervasive Software® Inc.
(Nasdaq: PVSW), a global value leader in data infrastructure
software, today announced it plans to contribute source code
for DTrace™ probes to the PostgreSQL community. DTrace probes
provide a superior interface for monitoring the PostgreSQL
engine and allow for more effective tuning. Pervasive also
formally welcomed Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW) to the
PostgreSQL community and applauded new support of PostgreSQL
through the Solaris ™ 10 Operating System. In January 2005,
Pervasive introduced the first integrated set of open source
support and services for the PostgreSQL database from an
established database company.
“For the past year we have noted the acceleration of the
predictable move in the data infrastructure software industry
toward open source. The announcement by Sun is proof that
PostgreSQL is now ready to take on the large commercial
databases and provide a powerful and affordable alternative to
restrictive and expensive traditional software
infrastructure,” said David Sikora, president and CEO,
Pervasive Software. “As an independent, platform-neutral
infrastructure provider, Pervasive is uniquely positioned to
provide services and support for any organization considering
PostgreSQL.”
DTrace is part of the new Solaris 10 performance profiling
framework from Sun. DTrace probes from Pervasive will add
performance metrics such as cache hit ratio. DTrace probes will
also be useful to participants of the BSD community who are
porting DTrace from Solaris 10 to BSD. The source code from
Pervasive will be added to PgFoundry, the PostgreSQL
Development Group's site for developing and publishing
PostgreSQL-related software.
PostgreSQL is the open source database technology leader,
offering enterprise-ready core technology like views, triggers,
stored procedures, and security, and it is released under the
business-friendly BSD license, allowing royalty-free use within
commercial settings. Pervasive provides services and
professional support for PostgreSQL that assist customers in
deriving value from the benefits of open source database
technology -- faster adoption, greater ROI, and lower
risk.
Pervasive remains focused on the infrastructure layer of the
software solution stack and on delivering low total cost of
ownership, so it is uniquely positioned to provide real value
to channel partners and their customers. Pervasive is the first
public company offering software, support and services around
PostgreSQL. The company has applied deep knowledge and more
than 20 years of database, migration and integration experience
and expertise to the rich functionality, services and support
around PostgreSQL. Pervasive has been an active PostgreSQL
community member since January 2005.
